Michael Roman and Amelia Clarke were an odd match to all who knew them. He was logical, grounded in ones and zeros, with a grasp hold on reality. She was a free spirited daydreamer, constantly living in a world unlike the one around her. But the two fell hard and fast, marrying within weeks of meeting each other, and eventually becoming the parents of three little girls who had become their world even before their births. Not even the love they felt for their children was enough to keep them together when their differences became more glaringly obvious than it had been at the start. When Amelia learned Michael had been having an affair, she threw in the towel and filed for divorce. When Amelia moved to Sleepy Hollow, taking the two girls with her, Samara was too young to understand what that meant. For her, it was an adventure. She got to see new things, meet new people, and have experiences she might not have had otherwise because her parents were adamant about giving their children the best (and most normal) lives that they could despite their difference. Weekdays were spent upstate and weekends were spent in the city, which meant Samara had two of everything - and double the amount of gifts on her birthday and Christmas. To say that Samara grew up a little spoiled would be an understatement, but she was a product of her circumstances and that was out of her control. From an early age, Samara was a social butterfly. So much so that she had a habit of wandering off to meet new people and make new friends even when she wasn't supposed to be doing that. They tried to teach her all about "stranger danger" and not talking to, or going with, someone who she didn't know, but the message never quite got through. Though this trait wasn't always a good one, her teachers never needed to worry about her not interacting with her peers. In fact, her quarterly report cards always had some kind of a comment about how she talked too much and didn't focus enough on her studies. Still, they couldn't complain much because she somehow managed to maintain a solid 3.8 GPA until she graduated. College was much like high school for Samara in the sense that she was quick to engage her peers and ask questions of her professors. If she was paying for the education she was receiving, she wanted to be sure she was getting her monies worth. The work was more difficult than she'd imagined, though. It wasn't as easy to maintain the GPA she'd had when she was younger, and the stress of that was made more difficult by being across the country from her boyfriend. But, by the end of her freshman year, she felt a lot more confident in what was expected of her, which helped her get through the remaining years of her undergrad. She'd never felt more accomplished than she did once she had a degree in hand. But a degree didn't mean much when it came time for Samara to figure out what she wanted to do with her post-collegiate life. Sure, she'd had dreams of getting into social work of some kind, but the job prospects weren't what she'd thought they would be. So she re-evaluated, picked up a second job to fill her time, and made the decision to not move out on her own just yet. It proved to be one of her better decisions, and though the search continues for a position where Samara will be able to utilize her degree, she's content with where she's at in life for the moment - financially, professionally, and personally. For a millennial living in one of the most expensive states in the country, there isn't much more she can ask for. • spent the first four years of her life living in the sprawling metropolis that is new york city before moving to sleepy hollow with her mother (and oldest sister) after her parents got divorced. • despite her father's infidelities, which caused michael and amelia to get divorced in the first place, the relationship between both parents grew to be incredibly friendly in the year post-divorce. it was, in part, for the sake of their children, but also because they realized they were better off as friends in the long run. • immediately after moving to sleepy hollow, amelia got her girls involved in as many activities as possible with the hopes that uprooting their lives and moving them away from their father wouldn't have a lasting affect on them as they got older. for the most part, this worked out perfectly, except it wasn't so much the clubs and classes amelia signed her up for that kept samara happy, but the neighbors across the street who each had children of their own that were the same age as samara. both robert and quinten easily became her closest friends - a friendship that remains intact to this day. • of all the clubs and classes and lessons amelia signed the girls up for, samara found that she didn't have much interest in most of them. there were two that stuck, though, and that she continued along with even after amelia stopped pushing them to socialize with their peers, were vocal and dance lessons. she added guitar lessons later in life, out of a sincere interest to learn how to play, and all three are what she turns to when she needs to clear her head. • all throughout grade school and high school, she was picked on and teased by the other girls because her best friends were boys. she never cared much until they began teasing her because they liked robert and quinten, rather than the usual "is it because none of the girls want to be seen with you?" what she hated even more than that was when others would insinuate that they were "more than" friends - as if it was impossible to have boys in her life who were just friends. • during her freshman year of high school, samara met brian holden. they started dating soon after that, and remained together all through the rest of high school and even after he left new york for california to go to college. they were the standard to look up to, at least according to all their friends, but she keeps the fact that their relationship has been rather rocky over the last few years to herself. • when she was in middle school, her mom began dating a man who already had a son of his own. he was kind and funny and treated samara and her sisters as if they were his own from the start, so when her mom announced she would be marrying him, samara was nothing but excited that their family would be growing. in the same year, her dad remarried as well, eventually having another daughter with samara's stepmom. • graduated from columbia university with a bachelors degree in sociology, and while she tries to figure out her next move, samara currently holds down two jobs at local businesses - the book nook and once upon a time. • even though she is a college graduate, makes a decent living between her two jobs, and has quite a bit in her savings account (because she's always been very good with money, and has been saving since she was still in high school), samara still lives at home with her mom. it is a choice she made out of both convenience and comfort, and the fact that both robert and quinten still live in their childhood homes right across the street definitely played a part in that decision. • in early 2017, a moment of weakness and drunkenness resulted in samara and rob sleeping together. that set off a chain reaction that quickly turned into an affair and the realization that she'd been in love with her best friend all along. a few months later, she flew across the country to confess to the infidelities, ending a relationship that had started in high school. a month later, she and rob decided to give a real relationship a try. |
